Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil  is a gentle healing oil known for its relaxing calming essence. It can be used as a sedative, anti inflammatory, antiseptic and or an analgesic. Lavender essential oil is revered for skincare due to its sebum regulating properties. It is also very helpful for burns.

Molecular components Linallyl Acetate, linalool. Cis-beta-ocimene,Therpinene-4-ol

Application- Diffuse or apply topically. Apply to Epsom salts then add to footbath or bathwater. Put 3 or 4 drops of lavender in a spray bottle filled with water and spritz in air or on bed linens.  Don’t diffuse in car due to sedative effects.

Massage Therapy /esthetics application- I use this essential oil toward the end of the day especially if my client is experiencing insomnia or stress issues. Occasionally I have somebody that will come in with a sun burn. I Will lightly massage the area with jojoba or grapeseed oil as a carrier with a few drops of lavender to cool the burn. If the person has oily skin I always use jojoba, otherwise I like the extra antioxidant that grapeseed oil provides for  the uv radiation damage. I also like to use it for waxing. I made a pre waxing cleanser with aloe gel liquid and added a mixture of lavender essential oil to a little Dead Sea Salt. Oil and water don’t mix so I like to bind the molecules of the essential oil to salt so the application is more of a mixture. I still recommend shaking the spray bottle first.

Common Sense Cautions: Do not get into eyes or mucus membranes! If you do get oil in eyes, dilute with a vegetable oil, DO NOT APPLY WATER!!

Aromatherapy Safety & Common Sense Cautions

When using essential oils it is imperative to understand the safety measures involved. Essential oils are a powerful tool of healing, but as with all powerful tools they can be misused, or dangerous if used improperly.

When applying oils directly to the skin, doing a skin test on a small patch of skin that has been cleansed can make a huge difference in making sure any potential allergy or skin sensitivity is not an issue. Just in case, always have a bottle of vegetable oil close by to dilute the oil if a problem occurs.  NEVER DILUTE ESSENTIAL OIL WITH WATER!!! It will push the oil in deeper and faster.

NEVER put essential oils in Eyes, ears, mucus membranes, genital areas, or on sensitive skin.

Don’t put undiluted essential oils into the bath because they float on top and burn the skin! Always mix with salt, baking soda or oil first.

Remember to consult a physician if you are pregnant, nursing, epileptic, have high blood pressure, taking medication, or under the care of a physician before attempting to use essential oils.

Do not use citrus oils and go out in the sun, because it can cause permanent brown hyper pigmentation of the skin.

Raindrop Therapy

Raindrop therapy has been a helpful tool for many of my clients in regards to inflammation that aggravates back pain. I only use therapeutic grade oils for all of the raindrop therapies that I offer. The classic raindrop therapy includes 9 different oils. 7 are single oils , which are: oregano, thyme, basil, cypress, peppermint, marjoram, and wintergreen. 2 oils are blends called valor and aroma seize. These oils, when used in the proper order have helped many people due to there therapeutic properties. Here is a list of the oil properties:

Blends

Valor-Supports proper structural and electrical alignment, balances energies instilling courage, confidence and self esteem.

Aroma seize- Anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxing, strengthening, and toning, relieves muscle pain and promote new muscle growth.

Single oils

Oregano-powerful antiviral, anti bacterial , anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, strengthens innate defenses.

Thyme-Highly anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, preserves and restores healthy brain tissue.

Basil- Powerful antispasmodic, antiviral , anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory antihistamine, muscle relaxant.

Wintergreen- anti-coagulant, antispasmodic, highly anti-inflammatory, balances blood pressure, pain reliever, rebuilds bones.

My raindrop therapy treatment is reflexology centered as I spend most of the session massaging the feet with the oil application. Reflexology is a modality of bodywork that uses the reflex point on the feet or hands to access different areas of the body. For instance, in raindrop therapy everything is centered on the spinal area so most of the treatment is on the foot from the inner heel up to the big toe. If the oil is useful for the sinuses or digestion I also cover these areas if the person’s body indicates a need for it. I’ve been experimenting accessing the craniosacral system via reflexology and I am finding the work incredible. It appears to be deeply relaxing and helpful.

The next application of oils is for the spine area. I turn the person on their stomach and drop the oils from about 6 inches above the skin directly on their spine area. The travel time of a drop from the bottle to the spine activates the electrical properties of the oil making it more effective. After all of the oils are applied, and the skin is diluted with a vegetable oil, I place a warm wet towel over the back to drive the oils in the body more effectively. Remember that oils and water don’t mix and adding water to the skin will drive the oils in the body quickly. That is why I dilute the essential oils with vegetable oil. This does not decrease the effectiveness of the oils, it just slows the rate of absorption so it does not irritate the skin.

This is the basic information to understand what receiving a raindrop therapy is like to receive and what it does for your body. As you can see just the application of one of these oils can come in very helpful for a variety of uses. When used together these oils offer superb results. However, these oils are not for everyone. The phenol content is very high so people with sensitive skin may not do well with the heat of the oil application on their skin. So before a raindrop therapy consult with your spa attendant, or massage therapist to see if it is an appropriate treatment for you to receive.

I then put it on their lung and or sinus reflexology points to stimulate the body to heal itself.  Extreme caution should be taken not to get into eyes or mucous membranes. I have a tendency to use basil for clients that are under high stress situations. It helps them to melt into the table and receive. It is a more expensive oil so I don’t typically use it for pain unless someone also has a respiratory issue. This oil is truly a gift from God. Extreme caution should be taken not to get into eyes or mucous membranes. If this should happen always use a vegetable oil to dilute. Do not use water as it will drive the oil in faster and deeper.
